Sara & Matt at the Villa Levens in Kendal, Cumbria
As I look out the window from my editing desk, Summer seems a long time ago now. Sarah & Matt got married in August at The Villa Levens, near Kendal in Cumbria. It’s a fair old drive over to cumbria from the part of Yorkshire that I live in, but what a way to start the day!
I’ve mentioned before how much I like it when the Bride & Groom get ready in the same location. It means I can get photographs of both sets of preparations. I think it also makes the day more relaxed. Everyone is in the same place & no one has to go anywhere all day. There would be no reason to go anywhere else anyway. The Villa Levens is a 140 year old victorian house with 14 Acres of beautiful, landscaped gardens and is just to the south of the Lake District. It’s the perfect location for a wedding!
Sarah and the bridesmaids started off getting ready upstairs while Matt and the Ushers were downstairs. Going anywhere in the hotel was a bit of an operation to ensure that they didn’t see each other. But, we were successful and by the time the ceremony came around they couldn’t wait to see each other.
I loved the idea of having the speeches on the stairs instead of the restaurant too. Using the stairs as a stage really added to the photographs & the Best Man’s speech was something that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Aimed at an adult audience, it was more along the lines of a stand-up gig and had everyone in stitches. I’m not sure Matt was too happy about having the contents of his teenage video collection shared with everyone though…
